I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and always felt different because of my biracial background. Growing up, there were virtually no other biracial individuals my age in school. Like many biracial people, I used to struggle with my biracial-ness, and I often secretly wished that I was white. Throughout adolescence and young adulthood, I began to realize how central my biracial background is to my identity. Being biracial not only makes me unique and special, but it also makes me appreciate people from all walks of life.
I am a graduate student in clinical psychology, and my biracial identity has influenced both my clinical work and my research. Currently, I am working on my doctoral dissertation on biracial identity among Asian-White Hapas. This research involves investigating more about the impact of family variables on biracial identity and psychological adjustment. I am looking for participants for my online study- please help me out if you can!
