Mixed Roots Japan

MixRoots Japan is a group for people of multi-racial and cultural backgrounds in Japan or abroad with Japanese ethnic/cultural heritage. We are the host of Shake Forward!, children and youth workshops, exhibitions, and the International Mixed Roots Essay and Art contest, as well as a monthly radio show.

ABOUT US

MixRoots Japan originally started as a regional community for HapaJapan, one of the half a dozen mixed roots communities in Japan. Most of these sprung up in the Japanese social networking service Mixi, which has become somewhat of a social movement.

This has greatly helped mixed roots individuals in Japan interact with each other and overcome former prejudice, think about their roots, think about the future of their mixed roots children. We serve individuals who are of mixed roots, i.e. multiracial or parents of mixed roots children, single parents with mixed roots children, Nikkei, people of complex history that have profoundly changed their roots (i.e. post war immigration, exodus, forced migration, trafficking), mixed roots individuals who have faced prejudice in society such as those of Ainu, Okinawan, Korean, any foreign or cultural descent, etc.

As a group, we organize art exhibits (all genre, not necessary hapa themed, but featuring hapa artists), concerts, guest speaker events, panels, interaction with cultural organizations, community service, culture exchange, idea exchange, informal advising between older and younge generations, parties, parties, beach parties, international parties, salsa parties, cultural celeberations, sporting events, etc. As a non-profit organization, we seek to broaden the horizons of our hapa brothers and sisters and the society as a whole.

The group is based in Japan and mainly serves those who are mixes that include Japanese roots or those who are simply multirracial mixes living in Japan or have lived in Japan or have had experiences relating to Japan. Any inquiries are welcome.

Looking forward to hear from you all!!! ^_^

    Intro...

Other than what my profile sez aut me, I'm sorry that the name has a "n-a-z-i" in it, but Njord just happens to be my patron among the Germanic Gods in Asatru which I can promise all of you the religion itself has nothing to do National Socialism or other Axis BS. I myself am 1/4 Nippon which it seems was enough that too often as a youth friendly WHITE kids would befriend me and we'd get a long OK, but then we'd slowly drift apart and whenever asked why they didn't like me any more the answer was always there was something a little "weird" or "off" about me. Maybe I'm not the only one to ever go through this.

    Hello!

I am a hapa graduate student in the Department of Psychology at the University of Windsor and I am currently doing a study on Asian-White biracial young adults and their biracial identity development.  I would really appreciate if you could participate in my online survey!

Participation is confidential and takes about 45 minutes, and you can save your data part-way through and finish your survey at a later time.  Participants will be making a significant contribution to research on biracial identity, as there is very little research currently out there on hapas!  Also, they will be entered in a draw for 1 of 6 gift certificates to Amazon.com.

If you are interested, please e-mail me (Vanessa)  at brstudy@uwindsor.ca.

    Thanks!

Hi fellow Mixed Roots Japan members!

I'm a fellow Japanese hapa like Edward here and feel that he's done so much for mixed issues in Japan.  I'm proud to call him a comrade in the multiethnic movement.

As members of Mixed Roots Japan, you must be interested in multiethnic culture.  I think you'd like Loving Day, an educational organization that spread the word about hapa/multiethnic folks like us.  We're involved in this contest that Pepsi is holding and we're in the running for a $25K grant to throw the largest multiethnic festival in the world, the Loving Day Flagship Celebration.

We need your help!  We started out in the competition in the top 10 spot and now our rank is slipping.  We need to get back into the first ten positions to win the grant so we can continue the Loving Day Celebration.  Please visit http://bit.ly/aBoObt and click "Vote for this idea." Spread the word!
