In Los Angeles, Barack Obama's sister Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng spoke at the Mixed Roots Film and Literary Festival (the largest Loving Day Celebration on the west coast), where she received the "Loving Prize."
2010 marked another great year for Loving Day celebrations. There were celebrations held in 23 cities across the globe in all shapes and sizes, from a picnic in Wichita to a film screening in Tokyo, and even a cruise departing from Miami.
The Loving Day Flagship Celebration in New York City continued to be the largest event in 2010. Despite the rain, close to 1000 guests of different cultural backgrounds and ages gathered to create a fun, warm and open vibe. Guests enjoyed free barbecue, Asahi beer, and danced to good music spun by DJ Moni and DJ Dhundee. The event was under a big tent overlooking the East River and it was all powered by solar energy.
