from what i can gather, the best digital slrs are either canon or nikon. the tech is moving quite quickly just depends on what u prefer. used to be that most canons dslrs were made in japan, while only the top model nikons are made in japan. note sure what the situation is now or if it interests you.

have to say that i'm a sony freak, so i just use a sony digital that fits in my pocket. on hols now but didn't bring my camera cause i'm in london but now wish i had!! going to get another sony when i'm in singapore, i think there is a new model with touch screen.

it depends on what your pocket looks like :P

I have a Nikon D40.  I chose nikon over Cannon because I think the quality of the body and stock lens is a lot better than Cannon's.  I love the quality of the pictures I take, and with no formal training i've been practicing as much as I can.

I have 2 complaints about Nikon however.  The first is the lack of available lenses.  Its hard to come up on used lenses because those that buy them, LOVE them, and they never let 'em go.  And new lenses are a pretty penny.  Sigma is another brand of lenses used for Nikon cameras and they're pretty good too and less expensive.  Still a little hard to find.

My 2nd complaint is that with the cheapest model (d40), they have the automatic/manual focus option on the lenses only, not the body.  So you have to buy different lenses that are specifically compatible with the D40(AF-S).  If you buy anything above it, all lenses work.

D40 will run you 300$-400$ used, and 600$ new.  D80, which i would recommend, will run you about 800-900 new.

Hope that helps, and it wasn't too long.  I get geeky when it comes to cameras :P

to shoot film, i use my dad's Canon SLR from the late 70's lol Still takes photos but the meter broke. I just have to make educated guesses on what shutter speed i should use. Usually comes out really good. lol Miraculously.

For digital i use a plain ol' point n shoot Canon Powershot cam. I've modified certain settings to fit my way and it does its job.

Would love to get one of those 12mp SLRs.
