Should I wear a face mask???
I am sure most of ya'll have heard that the Swine Influenza is sweeping through Mexico, the US and other countries...I thought ok...this is not a big deal, just media hype, but today I changed my mind...
A customer came in and I sneezed just before he came to my desk and he was like "should I be scared?" and I say, "oh no, I just have allergies!" then he goes on saying how his niece has the swine flu! She lives in Texas and was suppose to come to California to visit, but she got the flu and can't! It was the first person I met that actually knows someone with it, and it made me think of how it would be soooooo easy for it to spread into my office. What if his niece wasn't diagnosed before boarding the plane to LA and she visited her uncle and he came into my office right up to my desk and sneezed??? TWO DEGREES of separation! It freaks me out!
One of my co-workers wants us to all wear masks! I mean we come into contact with SO many people in one day, me especially since I am the receptionist!
I am not taking any chances now...Hand sanitizer is my new best friend!

little old lady...
Yesterday a co-worker and I assisted an elderly woman who needed help finding a smog test station nearby. We were just doing our job, but she was so appreciative she came by today to thank us. She slowly pulled open the door to our office and walked over to my desk with her cain and sat a bag on my desk. Inside the bag was two containers full of brownies she spent time baking just for us. It really touched me that this little elderly lady who could barely walk or open the door spent the time to bake us something that made our day!

NEW VIDEOS!
hey check out the videos I posted from youtube by Discover Nikkei. They are segments of "Exploring the Realities of Hapa-ness," a discussion held on April 12, 2008 at the Japanese American National Museum. I attended it and felt that the topics that were discussed were very interesting and I learned a lot about myself and identity as a hapa.

Interacting with people who just don't understand...
I guess it was because I look more Asian, but even if I was ALL Asian why the hell did I just get bowed to a few minutes ago as a thank you for giving a customer a receipt???? Apparently this older African American gentleman thought it was funny, I didn't! People are so ignorant sometimes, we are in America!
At a club once a white guy assumed I was Korean and started rambling on and on in Korean to impress me and I was like....ummm I am not Korean, and his reply was "sweetheart, it's the high cheekbones."
It is one thing to ask what I am, but stupid to assume...people are weird...
